citra pumpclipWith great timing for next week’s Peterborough Beer festival, Oakham ales will be the proud brewers of Britain’s 2nd best beer of 2014, after they won the silver award in the champion beer of Britain, for their single hopped ‘Citra’ beer.

I’m very pleased, as it is a beer I often enjoy, it’s credited as the first beer to use Citra in the UK, and it’s become a very popular hop since then, with many brewers naming their beer ‘Citra’.   The Oakham Ales Citra also won the gold medal for gold beers.  It follows in the steps of many other fine award winning beers from Peterborough’s premier brewer.

The Citra hop is a high alpha acid hop with a strong, yet smooth floral and citrus aroma and flavor.

If you’ve not had it before, I do recommend Citra – it’s a very bright beer (that’s especially clear), light gold, and full of hop flavour.  It goes really well with the Thai food served in the Oakham ales pubs in Peterborough (The Brewery Tap and Charters).

The champion beer of Britain was Timothy Taylor, Boltmaker, a beer I’ve not tried (yet).

I’m judging myself again for a 3rd year running at this year’s Peterborough festival, I’ll try and take some photos and write up some words for this blog.

Oakham Ales have lots of beers as usual at this year’s festival – check out the list here, or they are also all listed in the mobile app.
