OK so we can now officially get excited, as it’s a month of two huge beer festivals. Firstly the quite large and popular GBBF (Great British Beer Festival), CAMRA’s showpiece festival down in London. I went for the first time last year (yes shocking I’d not been before I know), and I’l be there on the Wednesday evening this year.
That’s still only a warm up to the main event for me – the Peterborough 38th Beer Festival, the UK’s largest outdoor festival (step back Cambridge!), and my favourite week of the year. As always I’ve booked Tues-Friday off work, so I can go along for the first three days (all day every day) – and then use Friday as a rest day to let my body get over it.
I’ve been updating this mini-blog site with all the details; the cask beer list, the bottled beer list, the wine list, the ciders. It’s all info from the local Peteborough CAMRA people/website – replicated here to help get the info out there. I’ll be working on my famous beer festival app over the next 3 weeks (or probably up to the day before the festival starts in reality!).
I’ve yet to be invited to judge again – but fingers crossed I’ll be there Wednesday morning once again, as I really enjoy that part of the festival – last year I was one of the final round judges helping to pick the champion beer of the festival. I also plan to be there during the trade session on Tuesday, again just got to twist the right arms 😉
Looking through the provisional beer list, it looks like my local brewer friends have been busy, with a ton of beers and collaborations listed. Make sure you try some of the Bexar County, Xtreme Ales, Castor, Milton, Nene Valley, and Three Blind Mice beers – all local and cracking.
Who knows, one day, I might even have one of my beers at ‘my’ festival – now that would be something to celebrate. At the moment it’s just home brew for myself though – and a select few who’s got to sample. I blog about my brewing and other beer stuff on my main beer writing blog here.
Cheers, Krispy Brown.
